From the SAFPA President’s desk (Vol 14 No 3 - Third Quarter 2012) SAFPA has embarked on an advertising initiative with member companies. We have temporarily garnered the full-time services of one of our council members, Manny Vieira, to visit potential members and current members in an effort to understand what the public expects from SAFPA in order to align the council with industry needs. So far it has gone exceptionally well, with some really good feedback.Posted August 2012 read more From the SAFPA President’s desk (Vol 14 No 2- Second Quarter 2012) HYDRAULIC HANDBOOK We have finalised our SAFPA Hydraulic Handbook. This will also be forwarded to members in the near future and is available for purchase to the rest of industry. A useful document to have lying around your desk for reference purposes. Posted July 2012 read more From the SAFPA President’s desk (Vol 14 No 1- First Quarter 2012) Serving on the SAFPA council is always a rewarding experience. I have plenty of opportunity to meet various people from industry, and what I am hearing so far is that 2012 is looking like it is going to be good for the fluid power industry. There have been some good orders placed on some of the bigger suppliers. Importers and sellers of pressure vessels (accumulators in the hydraulic world) now assume the responsibility of the manufacturer and are required to keep the original certificate of manufacture for a period of 12 years. As per the OHS Act and the Mines Safety Act, pressure vessels need to be pressure tested every 2 or 3 years depending on application. The frequency has not changed but now only an AIA (Accredited Inspection Authority) or an AIA-In Service are allowed to pressure test vessels. This is a question worth asking.Posted June 2011 read more From the SAFPA President’s desk (Vol13. No 1- First Quarter 2011) 2011 has arrived at the speed of white light. The holiday season has come and gone far too quickly and the business steam train has shunted our seaside memories aside, replacing them with deadline driven RFQs, lead-time issues for imported goods, design and implementation. Compounding this overdose of pressures we also have to deal with national and international weather extremes (besides the flooding – it snowed in Australia in December), Johannesburg billing crises, ongoing road works, the impending toll gate system, and the local election battles. I think it’s going to be an interesting year. Posted February 2011 read more From the SAFPA President’s desk (Vol12. No 4- Fourth Quarter 2010) HOSE ASSEMBLY ACCREDITATION The first company has been audited on the Premium Class of hose accreditation. I was fortunate enough to witness this audit. Although the company being audited was an ISO9001-2008 approved company, it was clear that they still had to institute additional procedures to comply with the Hose Accreditation Document. I would like to take this opportunity to urge all prospective companies wishing to get accredited to download both the Application Document and the Audit Document from SAFPA ’s website. Follow these questions through from start to finish and there will be no problems with the audit. These documents appear under the tab labelled “STANDARDS” once you have gone to www.safpa.org.za.Posted December 2010 read more From the SAFPA President’s desk (Vol 12 No 2- Second Quarter 2010) HOT STUFFOne month away from the 2010 FIFA World Cup and things are starting to hot up.
